Throttle’s owner obtained him as a puppy to be trained as a service dog to help with his post-military recovery.  For years, he was a great help, assisting the owner in his recovery and helping his owner obtain his college degree and new engineering profession. As the owner progressed, Throttle no longer accompanied the owner to work. Now, with a baby, preparing for marriage and long hours away from home, the owner is no longer able to care for him.

This handsome boy has high energy, which his former owner, a PTSD Veteran said was a big help with his post-military recovery from PTSD helping him to get up and move. Throttle has been trained to retrieve, and pick up a dropped object such as the TV remote, keys, etc.  He’ll try to pretend he doesn’t know what you mean when he’s more interested in a toy, but he can be redirected easily to the task at hand. There were numerous kids in the neighborhood where he lived, and Throttle was always friendly and playful with them.  His former owner told us he seemed to love to play with kids.

Because he was trained as a service dog he hasn’t had a lot of interactions with other dogs and can tend to be protective of his person when seeing other dogs. Throttle was trained to warn/signal the owner if someone was walking up too closely behind the owner so he is a watchful dog.  Anyone who adopts him will need to be mindful and understanding that Throttle will bark loudly at strangers – not to be aggressive but more of intimidation.

We are hoping to find Throttle a home that has GSD experience, and that can provide a high-energy, active dog like him with a loving home.
