This affectionate young girl loves to play with toys, balls and sticks, running, playing fetch and romping with other dogs.   In her foster home, she gets to attend doggie daycare during the work week, and she has learned to watch for and open her own Bark Box.  She lives with  two other canines, Emmy, who is a 9-year-old Jack Russell and Kreuz, a 9-year-old GSD.

There are a few things she needs help with, but her personality and looks make her well worth the effort.  She clearly enjoys riding in a topless Jeep, wearing a doggie seat belt, when the family goes on trails.  In town, she likes going in the drive-thru lane at Dunkin and visiting Home Depot.

When we first met Leia, she startled easily at unfamiliar items and needed socialization and training to help build her confidence.  She still barks at visitors and needs to get used to a new person gradually, so her adopter will have to be patient and not let anyone just walk right up to her.  A treat or tennis ball can make introductions to new friends go smoothly.  She’s an intelligent girl and wants to please, so training with her is rewarding and fun.  Once she’s comfortable with a new person (30-45 minutes), she’s a friend for life.

Leia will do best with someone who has German Shepherd experience and who understands the rewards that come from helping a dog learn new skills and from providing the experiences that increase their confidence.  If you can be that person and would love a best friend who enjoys car rides, doing things with you, playing with other dogs and might even get along with a cat (she has met two who didn’t run,  and she didn’t react), please ask about meeting Leia.
