#550 Aries

Hi!
Just wanted to touch base and share a recent photo of Aries, that we adopted from GSRNE a couple years ago. (He had a sister, Freya, that was also adopted by someone through your rescue). He is such a sweetheart and doing so well, I couldn’t ask for a better dog, I will spoil him forever!

He loves to follow me in the yard doing yardwork because he knows we take frequent frisbee breaks.
As you can see, ‘sun’s out, tongue’s out’.

Happy tails (still!) over here!

I had my ninth birthday! I love birthdays because my humans give me special human food for my special day. Like other rescue dogs, I have more than one birthdate in my records. So my humans celebrate twice a year, on both birthdays in my file.

We went for a walk around the neighborhood and I played with other dogs and ignored the humans. After we got home my human mom made me wait to eat because I had been running. So unfair. I drooled a whole puddle waiting for my food! Then – finally – she put the bowl down. After I inhaled that, I got my birthday treat.
Ahhh, that fish was good. Maybe I’ll get chicken on my next birthday.
Good night!!

#649 Sable

Sable

I had to say goodbye to my sweet girl Sable 2 weeks ago today. My heart is broken and I miss her so very much.
Sable was my first Foster and first female Gsd. We connected in the first 2 weeks and knew she was the one I needed to adopt. The time we spent together was so special. She had some issues that we worked on, it was amazing how quickly she overcame them one by one.
She was a quick learner and eager to please. We learned so much together. Sable loved her walks and rides to the park and hanging out in her backyard. Sable started to show signs of slowing down in early Apr..
Unfortunately in less than a month tests showed Cancer was in her spleen, liver and left hind quarter, the prognosis was very poor. I had to make the decision to take on the pain so she would not have to.
I truly believe she landed right where she was supposed to be in the remainder of her life. I am so very grateful for the time I had with such an amazing sweet dog. Sable’s GSD# is a special # to me, they are the last 3 digits of my BD.
Thank you GSRNE for bringing Sable to me, it was meant to be.

#450 Chloe

The sweetest, well behaved, and oh so photogenic our girl was the best. We never heard her whimper, whine nor bark. She never initiated an approach, but happily gave many kisses and tail wags when approached. She had many dog pals whom she was always gentle. Our travels all over the country were her delight particularly ones she got to race across a beach and splash in the water. She aged so gracefully, and as the eyesight started to diminish and she took more naps we recall those chilly days when she cuddled up in front of the fireplace while her dad read to her. Every so often getting up to nudge a thank you.

Those eyes seemed to gaze right into our souls. How could we refuse an extra treat or a steak dinner. She made known what she wanted and when sitting quietly in front of the refrigerator looking at the ice maker or in front of the treat jar.

By our sides 24/7e neighbors and friends were amused watching her follow closely while we did yard work. They will miss her also.

The love we had for her was returned 10 fold. We shall miss her for the rest of our lives.

#640 Jax

Hi Tina,
Jax is doing very well. He has overcome quite a few fears and bad behaviors in the past year.  He loves people, other dogs, and children. He gets lots of exercise (me too) and now loves to go places in the car. We still work biweekly with a trainer to reinforce his retraining. His best friend is a two-year old GSD named Alfie, who he plays with every weekend. In general, he is a very happy, gentle GSD. Oh, and he happens to be absolutely gorgeous.

I am so grateful to the GSRNE for funding him and allowing me to adopt him. He is much loved.

Hope to see you at the auction and the picnic.
Best wishes,
Maria

#546 Shiloh

We have been left broken-hearted with the passing of our beloved Shiloh. She brought so much joy and love into our home. As a puppy, Shiloh was neglected and mistreated until she was rescued and taken by GSRNE and placed in the loving care of her Foster Parents. In the spring of 2020, we started searching for a canine companion and came across the GSRNE website When saw Shiloh’s picture and read about her, we knew that she was the one for us. When we were introduced to her we fell in love. She was so beautiful and smart; she immediately came up to us with her ball with an eagerness to play. Shiloh was a little anxious when she first came into our home, but after a few weeks she was right at home; learning our daily routine and showing affection. We enjoyed going for long walks, playing in the backyard and sitting together in our living room or out on the patio. She loved it when our grandkids came to visit because she knew that it meant extra attention and playtime, and of course more of her favorite treats. Our home is very quiet now, but we will always hold Shiloh in our HEARTS!

#508 Jasmine

We lost our beloved guide and companion the first week of the New Year. Jasmine was having some mobility issues the past couple of years and medication seemed to help. But at the end of October 2023, we noticed that she was not engaging with us as usual and her back legs were weakening. She collapsed on New Year’s Day and stopped eating. We knew that we had to make a decision soon for her.
Our hearts and home are missing the most wonderful dog. My husband is missing his favorite walking partner and her presence at his feet by his recliner. I am missing my bird feeding assistant who played daily games of pushing her kibble ball around the house. We will miss her sitting on the sofa watching for squirrels among so many endearing habits.

Lastly, we thank her foster parents for all their hard work in making her a great companion for us(and Chloe #389).And thank you to GSRNE for saving these noble and intelligent dogs.

I ONLY WANTED YOU

They say memories are golden
well maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories,
I only wanted you.

A million times I needed you,
a million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you
you never would have died.

In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place
no one could ever fill.

If tears could build a stairway
and heartache make a lane,
I’d walk the path to heaven
and bring you back again.

Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.

–Vicky Holder

Ember, not a day goes by we don’t think of you. Gone, but NEVER forgotten!

#548 Brutus

Sweet old man Brutus was my first foster dog and stayed with me for the rest of his life. He became best friends with my younger male GSD Bogie, not something that was a foregone conclusion when Brutus arrived. Brutus had the old man grumbles when he moved around, stretched, or got belly rubs. He could spend all day rolling in the grass and sniffing the wind. He loved his slow walks, picking up sticks, and chewing tennis balls. Another favorite pastime was playing tug of war with a jolly ball and, if his wobbly legs or my tired arm would let him, he’d do it all day. If his best friend would swoop in and steal a ball, Brutus would protest loudly with high pitched yelps, but let him have it and all would be forgiven when they’d cuddle up side by side to go to sleep. Even as he became more feeble due to severe arthritis and a few episodes of pneumonia, his big personality and spunk showed through. We had a wonderful, unforgettable year together. Senior rescue dogs are truly the best and I miss him everyday. Thank you GSRNE for bringing us together.

Celebrate Your Birthday With a Facebook Fundraiser for GSRNE!

We wanted to share some good news!  This has been a long time coming and many of you have asked often, and we’re happy to announce that you can now choose your favorite rescue (GSRNE) as your nonprofit charity for your birthday fundraiser on Facebook.

For nonprofits, like GSRNE it’s a total win!  Facebook birthday fundraisers are easy to do and, as of last year, Facebook has also waived its processing fees so that every dollar goes to the nonprofit organization (unlike most crowdfunding platforms, which charge a nominal fee).

Thank you for your friendship and the love that you always show for our dogs! Find instructions on how to set up a birthday fundraiser on Facebook

With much gratitude,
GSRNE Board of Directors
