Events

Throughout the year, GSRNE puts on or is involved in several fun filled events! We invite you to come and meet us (or join us if you are interested in volunteering) at any of these upcoming events.

GSRNE has several major fundraisers during the year. The bulk of the funds needed to keep the rescue going are raised at these events. It is also a wonderful time to meet new members, catch up with ones you know and just have a great time with your dog! For more information click here:

Rescue Dog Parade

One of our favorite events in GSRNE is the Picnic, where we( all volunteers, members and dogs) get together to relax, hang out, and share some delicious food, games, and GSRNE news. For the past four years we’ve been holding this event at the 4-H Fairgrounds in Westford, MA, and our members have let us know that they really like this location; the address is 51 South Chelmsford Rd., Westford, MA, and the date is Sunday, June 22, 2014. Some of the advantages of this fairground are the large, airy buildings, the mature trees and an open field for games and events.

Abundance of picnic food and treats

We’ll be holding our Rescue Dog Parade at the Picnic this year, in addition to recognizing our Volunteer of the Year and Foster Home of the year and presenting the Kasey and Chey Awards and the Starfish pins. We really look forward to sharing the stories of some of our most active volunteers each year, but it’s getting harder to choose just a few as our membership grows!

Picnic is a joint effort between GSRNE and members

We want to prepare a list of adopted dogs that will be in the Rescue Dog Parade, so please send an email to picnic@gsrne.org to let us know you and your dog will be there. We all enjoy hearing new stories and seeing the members with their dogs all breeds are welcomed as they are all GSDs that day. We love to parade EVERY rescue dog!  Your dog may not do well at such events but you will still love the day and hearing about the dogs!

The delicious food at the Picnic is a joint effort; GSRNE provides the meats for the grill, and our members each bring a favorite dish to share. No one goes home hungry from this event! Jill Cuddihy is coordinating the food, and Laura DiDio is coordinating the rescue dogs attending. Tables and chairs are provided by the 4-H facility, but we need our own volunteers to come early and help set them up in the covered pavilion and put them away afterwards. Please send an email to www.picnic@gsrne.org if you will offer to help with the set up and/or take down and clean-up. As you know, all the money contributed to GSRNE goes to help the dogs, so we don’t hire people to do the jobs we can do for ourselves; your help is necessary. Please set aside the date, June 22nd, and join us for a day of celebration! Set up starts at 9:00, and the picnic starts at 11:00 AM!
