We also lost Alfie yesterday. He was a paralyzed senior when we took him into GSRNE. He had been tied outside to a truck with a rope and hurt his neck. His loving foster mom and adopter gave him all the love and care he needed to get his mobility back. This sweet old boy will be missed.

Adopted on 10/28/2013

Biography
He was 9 years old when he came into our rescue in February 2013.  Alfie had been a stud dog and spent a lot of time living outside at the end of a chain.  One day, he tried to run after something, hit the end of his chain full force and caused so much damage to his neck that he was left paralyzed from the neck down.  He was taken to an animal hospital and signed over to their custody.  As he began to regain some movement in his front legs, GSRNE was contacted and asked if we could give this boy a chance to recover as much of his mobility as possible.  Fortunately, we had just the right foster home available, and Alfie has been gradually getting back a lot of his strength and flexibility over the past months.  The animal hospital staff continued to work with Alfie, and he is now able to trot on the beach, go for walks and get more fun out of life than he ever had before.  His gait is still a bit wobbly, but he doesn’t let that bother him.
