When we were notified by a dog pound about this handsome young male, we
could not believe that he had been left with them and didn’t have a name; he was
9 months old. They had given him a number, so we first recorded him as #16…it
was very sad to have to do that. He had no vet records or records of any kind, so
GSRNE paid for him to have his Rabies shot, neutering and other necessary
vaccines.
From that day, though, his life got better, and one of our volunteers suggested
that we name him Dutch. We did not have a foster home available, so he has
been boarding and training at a new kennel whose owner picked up Dutch from
the vet office for us. As you can imagine, Dutch had no training or manners and
does have a young dog’s energy; he would greet everyone by jumping up
enthusiastically. He has learned some self-control since then and gets to play with
other dogs every day in the daycare play yard. He’s excited to meet a new person
and has learned to sit, rather than jump, and will take a treat nicely. Dutch has
learned some basic obedience and will sit or down on command, now. He will
bark at other dogs when on leash and can be nervous in a new situation, so he
needs an experienced GSD person to look to when he’s unsure about how to
react….someone willing to continue working on daily training and exercise with
him.
Dutch will be a year old in December, and we feel that he’s ready to meet a
potential adopter and move to a real home. Please contact us if you have been
approved to adopt or would like to send in an adoption application and be
considered as a forever home for Dutch.
