Happy Tails: Archer !
Some dogs wait a little longer for their happy ending, but when the right person comes along, it makes every hardship worth it.
Back in early June, we shared a foster plea for 7-year-old Archer, the older dog who had lived with Ruby. Archer’s story was heartbreaking. After her owner was evicted, he intentionally set the home on fire while Archer, Ruby, and the elderly landlord were still inside. Thankfully, they all escaped safely, and Archer’s owner is no longer part of her life. The landlord, who loved Archer dearly but was unable to keep her, reached out to GSRNE hoping we could give both dogs the fresh start they deserved.
Despite everything she had been through, Archer never lost her sweet spirit. Her tail was always wagging, she loved chasing balls and Frisbees, and all she wanted was a family to love her.
The very night we posted her foster plea, one of our longtime devoted GSRNE volunteers reached out. She had recently lost her beloved male Doberman just a month earlier and wondered if she and Archer might be exactly what each other needed.
It was… It took about a week for Archer to realize she wasn’t just visiting she was home. Once she did, her heart opened completely. She quickly became devoted to her new mom, and the feeling was mutual.
Now happily settled on Cape Cod, Archer has embraced her wonderful new life. She’s made friends with several neighborhood dogs, and one of her favorite pastimes is “helping” her mom water the flowers by chasing and playing with the garden hose often making it impossible to get any watering done!
Sometimes the easiest placements are the ones that were simply meant to be. With her new beginning came a beautiful new name. Archer is now Esther (GSRNE #753), and we couldn’t be happier for this deserving girl.
Thank you to her wonderful mom for opening your heart and home. After everything Esther endured, she finally has what every rescue dog dreams of a safe place, unconditional love, and a forever family. Happy Tails, sweet Esther. You are finally home! ♥️
