Adopted September 7, 2024

We are so excited to tell this adoption story as all of our extended GSRNE family has been involved in this happy ending.

Many of you may recall the story of Juin Roo for whom we sent out an urgent plea in August.  His owner had several GSDs in the past and was at a loss when her last dog passed away.  A well-meaning friend surprised her with a gift of a young German Shepherd.  It wasn’t long before the owner understood she was in over her head.  She did her best to manage Juin Roo, including working with a trainer.  But, given her health and physical limitations, she wasn’t able to walk him.  This left Juin Roo confined to an unfenced backyard, on a run.  He was good with people, enjoyed physical attention, and like most GSDs, craved mental and physical stimulation.  However, without an outlet for his growing energy, he discovered ways to amuse himself including playing with rocks which he sometimes tried to swallow.  The owner finally contacted GSRNE in the hope we’d be able to find Juin Roo a home that could give him all the attention he would need.

A few days later, the owner called again, distraught that Juin Roo had indeed swallowed rocks and was in extreme distress.  At emergency veterinary clinic it was determined surgery was required to save Juin Roo’s life.  The owner didn’t have the funds to pay so GSRNE assumed ownership of Juin Roo and paid for the surgery to remove the rocks from his stomach.   With the amazing help of our GSRNE family, Juin Roo, now called Juno, we were able to raise the entirety of the funds needed to cover the cost.  A huge THANK YOU goes out to all of you!

Juno recovered well and charmed everyone he met.  He began to thrive once he received the attention, time, physical and mental stimulation a young German Shepherd requires to grow into a respectful adult dog.  About this time we received an application from a recently retired K9 officer and his wife.  He’d had two wonderful German Shepherd K9 partners over his career, both getting to live out their senior days in the lap of luxury with his wife and him, the last having passed away about a year ago.  They felt it was time to fill their home with German Shepherd escapades once again.  It was love at first site between all three.  We couldn’t be happier to announce that Juno, #690 is now in his forever home, without the risk of boredom again!
