REHOMING/SURRENDER PAGE

REHOMING (SURRENDER):

German Shepherd Rescue of New England works with shelters, animal control officers and owners throughout the six New England states to find German Shepherds new, loving, forever homes.

We understand that making the decision to rehome your German Shepherd Dog was not an easy decision for you to make. And you still may feel conflicted at the thought of giving up a beloved member of your family.

While it’s always best for a dog to stay with its people, we understand an owner may face extenuating circumstances that make it impossible to keep a dog. In those cases, our Intake Team is able and willing to talk with you to learn more about the situation and to determine if GSRNE might be able to offer rehoming assistance.

It’s important to remember that GSRNE is a foster-based organization. This means we don’t have a physical shelter, so any dog we take in is placed in a foster home prior to adoption. Whether we can take in a dog, and the timing of that intake, depends greatly on the dog itself and the availability of a foster suitable for the dog. Owners often ask us how long the process takes to determine whether we can help. There are several variable to our process and while we don’t commit to a timeline we work as quickly as we can and realize some owners may have urgent situations.

GSRNE SURRENDER PROCESS:

  • Use the Surrender Contact Us form below or call 978-443-2202, Menu Option #2 and leave a message.
  • An intake team member will call you to get more information about your dog to determine if we can proceed in working with you.
  • If we can proceed, you’ll receive a follow-up email detailing additional information required about your dog.
  • Once the required items are received and reviewed, you’ll be notified as to whether or not we can proceed in considering your dog.
  • If we continue to consider your dog, a behavior evaluation will be arranged to meet and interact with your dog.  The intake team will review the results of the behavior evaluation and you’ll be notified of the outcome.
  • If your dog is accepted into GSRNE, you’ll be advised of the next steps.

Keep in mind that this process may take some time, so please be patient.  GSRNE is an all-volunteer organization and the volunteers have families, dogs, and jobs of their own which also require their attention and time.
