Shea’s family loved her very much, and were her second home in Shea’s very short life. When they heard about this beautiful dog and saw she was homeless they wanted to be her family and give her a loving home. The family included their young children that were ages 2 and 4 years old. They soon realized that due of the lack of socialization in Shea’s younger years, she wasn’t comfortable around young children. Shea loved the 2 year old in the home, and interacted well with her, but the quick movements of the 4 year old made Shea anxious. They knew it wasn’t a good situation for any of them and contacted GSRNE for help. They wanted to find a home for Shea where she could thrive.
This situation is an example of why GSRNE will not place a rescue GSD in a home with children under 7 years of age. Most of the dogs we are asked to help have not been properly socialized, or have never been around young children.
We are very happy Shea’s family realized, although Shea is a very sweet and smart girl, this was not a good fit for their family and reached out to us!
Shea and her new family are a match made in Heaven. Her new family told us that she is the most affectionate dog they have ever seen. The moment they wake up in the morning, Shea comes over the bed and showers them with kisses. Shea gets lots of love back from her new family. Her new family is also committed to continuing her training. We are so thrilled for Shea and her new family. Congratulations to all!
