A few weeks ago we were contacted by a family looking for urgent assistance in rehoming their nearly 6 month old German Shepherd, Gunnar.  They had never raised a GSD puppy before and were a little overwhelmed by the abundance of the little guy’s energy, but they had been getting help from friends connected to our rescue.  The urgency came when it was determined that the husband needed specialized surgery that would take them out of state and they couldn’t bring Gunnar with them.

We were struck by not only how cute Gunnar was, but how much he looked like GSRNE’s Brave, the adorable, fan favorite girl from a few years ago who came into the rescue emancipated from untreated EPI and is now living the high life with her wonderful family.  This gave us an idea…Brave’s mom had fostered several dogs for us before Brave and we hoped that maybe she’d take Gunnar as an emergency foster placement.  As luck would have it, she told us she’d been seriously considering adopting a brother and playmate for Brave and would actually rather adopt him than foster!

After only two days, it became apparent to everyone that Gunnar was home.  Brave and Gunnar are having so much fun together.  She’s showing her new brother the ropes and introducing him to all the best play spots in the yard.  Gunnar has especially taken to his new dad.  His family has told us he’s a bundle of energy and as sweet as can be.  He still needs training, just like any puppy, but it’s clear he has the best life ahead of him.  Congratulations to all.
