This beautiful girl almost didn’t make it to her first birthday, which will be Nov. 1st!  When she was 9 months old, she made the mistake of chewing up and swallowing a sock….and then another sock.  Her owners didn’t see it happen and took her to the vet when she began to be lethargic and weak.  They were told that surgery was needed to remove all the foreign matter from her intestines and that there would be a period of restricted activity and feeding only bland food.  Her owners had two other dogs and young children and decided to ask GSRNE to take responsibility for Ginger and then find her another home.

With the surgery behind her, Ginger recovered from the ordeal and began to act more and more like the energetic puppy she is.  Her foster Mom helped her cope with wearing a cone for 10 days and kept her on restricted activity for 3 weeks; gradually, Ginger healed and was finally given the “all clear” to run and play as she had been itching to do.

Ginger is now ready to find her forever home with someone who will enjoy the way she loves to cuddle, will take her for walks and continue her obedience training.  Ginger is nicely motivated by food and the ball she likes to play with, and she’s eager to please, all of which makes it fun to work with her. She also loves to play with toys, but she hasn’t learned her lesson about NOT eating stuffed toys or other soft objects and will need to be supervised like any other puppy or young dog.

She has met other dogs while out walking and at the vet and is good with most.  Once in a while, though, there will be a dog she’s not comfortable with, and she will react with barking and lunging.  She’s learning to look to her foster Mom for treats when there’s an unknown dog around, and that’s a work in progress.  She does have some prey drive and showed too much interest in chasing the cats in her foster home.

Ginger loves it when you talk to her and will give you the “head tilt” as she tries to understand every word.  She has met a lot of different people and enjoys making new friends.  Please let us know if you would like to meet Ginger and possibly become the special person in her life.
