At almost five years old, Finnie was in a loving home that included three children and an older female German Shepherd. When the older dog began picking fights with Finnie, both dogs had to be separated and crated, with one dog having time free in the home while the other stayed crated. Knowing that it would be harder to find another home for the older dog, the owners contacted GSRNE and asked for help.

Our evaluator said that Finnie greeted him with tail wagging and looking for attention; she has good energy but is not over the top and seemed excited to see his dog but showed no aggression.

We placed her in a new foster home, and her foster parents have been keeping us updated as they get to know her better. We’ve learned that she has a strong desire to please, and that positive reinforcement is very effective in helping her learn and adapt to new situations. At first, Finnie did not show much interest in playing, but after a week in her foster home, her favorite activity became playing fetch in the fenced yard. She’s an affectionate girl and loves to interact with people once she gets to know them and feel comfortable. She can become over-stimulated in a new environment or meeting new people, but she responds well to a familiar command, like “sit” and will quickly refocus on her foster Mom or Dad for guidance.

We’re grateful that we were here for Finnie and that we had a foster home available so that both she and the older GSD in her original home can have more free time out and about. Finnie is now ready to find her forever home with someone who will appreciate all that she has to share.
