After being purchased from a K-9 training facility at age 2, Amber seemed to lead a charmed life. She became the companion of an older man who owned an estate and wanted a buddy, and there was a caretaker who made sure she was safe when she was loose on the property. When she was 5.5 years old, the owner died; but the caretaker continued to take care of her until the estate was sold. When she had to be moved, another family tried to take her in, but she was too reactive to get along with their dogs. The family had tried for months to find Amber another home and eventually contacted GSRNE.
We had to board Amber while waiting for a foster home to be available; and during that time, we hired a trainer to work with her on her reactivity to other dogs and to help her remember her original training. It had not been kept up while she was on the estate, and the family who took her in had started reminding her of basic obedience knowledge.
Now that she’s in her foster home, we’ve learned what a happy personality she has; she actually does a happy dance when with her special person. She loves going for walks and has learned to ignore other dogs as long as they don’t get too close. She does have some prey drive and would not do well living with a cat or small animal; she’ll probably be happiest as an only dog. Amber hasn’t met a person she doesn’t like and enjoys being sociable. She does have some separation anxiety but is comfortable being in her crate for up to two hours at a time when necessary. Her foster Mom is retired and has really bonded with Amber, who is now 7 years old, and we’re happy to say that she is adopting this lovely girl, who has found her forever home.
