Bella had a good life living with her people and another GSD for nine years; she bonded most closely
with the husband, and the other dog preferred being with the wife. That arrangement worked well until
the husband died and Bella tried to bond more closely with the wife, which was resented by the other
GSD in the family. The two dogs had to take turns being crated, and her owner felt it would be better for
Bella to be the center of attention in another home.
As soon as we were called to find out if we could help Bella, a very special couple came to mind. They
are repeat adopters and prefer to take an older dog, knowing that a lot of people overlook them because
of age. They had recently lost the previous dog they had adopted from GSRNE and had let us know that
their house felt too quiet and empty. When we told them about Bella, they offered to become her foster
home so we could move her right away. A little more than a week after she moved in with them, they
were asking how long they would have to wait to adopt her.
It wasn’t long at all, and our Adoption Coordinator, when she was there to sign the adoption contract,
described how active and fit Bella is looking now. She gets daily walks and play sessions, and her food is
measured carefully, so she has lost the extra weight she had been carrying. When Tina rang the
doorbell, she could hear Bella barking; and when she stepped inside, she received a happy greeting and
no more barking. The adopters told her that Bella loves the grandchildren and loves to be in the middle
of everything when they visit. She rides well in the car and is a model client at the vet and for the
groomer. Bella has bonded closely with her new family members, as they have bonded with her, and we
are happy to announce that Bella has found her forever home.
