Sometimes the best dogs are the quiet ones. Meet Drew, an 8-year-old gentleman with beautiful manners and a heart full of love.
Drew is calm, affectionate, and incredibly well-mannered. When one of our volunteers evaluated him, she was able to walk him just a few feet from an intact male dog and he didn’t react at all no barking, no pulling. He simply glanced over and stayed right by her side. Even without being asked to heel, Drew chose to walk neatly beside her the entire time.
As a younger dog, Drew received extensive training and it truly shows. He works beautifully both on and off leash and will heel off lead. He simply needs someone willing to gently reinforce what he already knows. Drew is the kind of dog who wants to do the right thing.
It’s the little things that stand out, too. He takes treats gently, never grabbing or rushing. His previous owners used a Dremel for his nails and had him groomed monthly, so he’s very comfortable being handled. At the vet, Drew is a model patient. The veterinarian was able to hug him, examine him, and touch all parts of his body freely. Drew even leaned in and clearly enjoyed the affection. The vet tech handling him did the same, and he remained relaxed and trusting the entire time.
Drew’s former owners loved him deeply. Due to age and medical challenges, they simply could no longer give him the care he deserved. They were described as “helicopter parents,” and it shows this is a dog who has been truly cherished.
