Layla is a beautiful Bi-color German Shepherd who grew up in a loving home for most of her 6 years. When the family circumstances changed, and they had to move from a house with a fenced yard to an apartment, they made the difficult decision to ask GSRNE to find another home for their girl. Since time was a factor, we moved her to a board/train facility while we looked for a foster home for Layla. During the three weeks that took, everyone who works at the kennel told us what a sweet girl she is.
Now that Layla has been in her foster home for a short time, we are also impressed with her friendly and playful personality. She loves racing after a tennis ball and will bring it right back….but she waits for you to get ready to throw a second tennis ball before releasing the first one. We can tell that she had some obedience training, but she needs some time to brush up on those skills. Fortunately, she is very food motivated and will quickly remember what “sit” and “down” mean when a treat is used; we’re working on “stay.” Layla has not been crate trained but has good house manners; she goes to the door when she needs to go out and will come right back inside when called. She will soon be going on walks with her foster Dad so we can find out about her leash skills, but Layla is showing us that she is confident, willing to learn and can be an ideal companion for someone who understands German Shepherds!
