IN AREA SHELTERS
GSRNE sometimes gets asked to help a German Shepherd, that we can’t bring into our rescue. It could be that GSRNE is full and has no foster homes available or we have not been able to see the dog yet to evaluate it. So, we try to help the shelters and the dogs by telling people, like you, about them. If a dog is at a shelter and you want more information about it, please call the appropriate shelter that’s provided.

We have not temperament tested or evaluated the dogs on this page. Some of these dogs have a very short time to live, due to overcrowding at shelters or the dog falling apart mentally/emotionally. If you are interested in one, please call about these dogs right away, and please mention that you saw info about the dog on the GSRNE website. Thanks!

Note: ALWAYS call first and ask if a shelter dog is still available. Shelters often do not update us when dogs are adopted or euthanized so listings here can be out of date until we find out. Please let the shelter know that you saw the dog on GSRNE’s website.

And if you adopt a dog that you saw here, we’d love to hear from you! These are dogs we wish we could help and it would be wonderful to know how they are doing. Let us know if it’s okay to put your story of adopting the dog here on the site and on our Facebook page as everyone loves a happy ending! Email [email protected] to share your story with us!

Atticus Needs a Home

Handsome, soulful, and full of heart, Atticus is a one-of-a-kind companion looking for a home where he can be your one and only. After bravely completing heartworm treatment, he’s healthy, happy, and eager to start the next chapter of his life!

Atticus is a curious, gentle soul who thrives on companionship and activity. He loves his walks, splashing in the pool, and feeling the wind in his fur on beach outings or car rides. Pup cups? Yes, please. Sniff mats? Even better. He loves to keep his brain busy and is always up for learning something new, especially if it earns your praise. Though independent in spirit, Atticus is deeply loyal once he bonds with you. He’s not just a pet, he’s a partner. A shadow. A calm, grounding presence who wants nothing more than to share life’s moments right by your side.

Because Atticus prefers to soak up all the love himself, he’ll need to be the only pet in the home. But in exchange, he’ll give you his whole heart and a lifetime of faithful companionship.

Atticus is located at the Pope Memorial Humane Society – Cocheco Valley in Dover, NH. See his full bio and apply to adopt.

Bear Needs a Home

MEET BEAR!

My friends describe me as: Goofy, Playful, Shy

Bear is an extremely handsome and sweet boy weighing 53 pounds with long legs. He looks like a shepherd mix with his handsome black and tan locks and his gorgeous smile. When we talk about Bear we smile because he is such a fun, active dude who loves adventures whether it be sniffari walks, playtime with dogs or just chillin’ on the couch watching a movie all day. He enjoys car rides, going to the beach, playing with toys, learning new tricks including ‘speak’, ‘sit’, ‘laydown’, ‘paw’ and ‘other paw’! He sometimes gets nervous of new people but warms up quickly. Like a shepherd, he alert barks at things sometimes so if that is what you are looking for then he’s available for the job! Bear is an agile guy and has lots of life in him so an adopter who is looking for a dog that they can go on adventures with would be ideal. Just because of his size we are thinking of teens and older and if you have another dog in your home looking for a fun, happy and hunk of a guy to play with please consider adding Bear to your home! He fits all the boxes!

Bear is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been neutered, microchipped and seen by our vet team.

We welcome adopters from NH, RI, CT, and NY however, we are unable to facilitate same day adoptions due to state regulated paperwork requirements.

Bear is located at the Animal Rescue League of Boston. Please visit during our adoption center hours: Wednesdays-Sundays from 1:00PM – 6:00PM, Tuesdays by appointment only from 1:00PM – 6:00PM, closed Mondays & Holidays. Click here for information about our adoption process.
