#548 Brutus

Sweet old man Brutus was my first foster dog and stayed with me for the rest of his life. He became best friends with my younger male GSD Bogie, not something that was a foregone conclusion when Brutus arrived. Brutus had the old man grumbles when he moved around, stretched, or got belly rubs. He could spend all day rolling in the grass and sniffing the wind. He loved his slow walks, picking up sticks, and chewing tennis balls. Another favorite pastime was playing tug of war with a jolly ball and, if his wobbly legs or my tired arm would let him, he’d do it all day. If his best friend would swoop in and steal a ball, Brutus would protest loudly with high pitched yelps, but let him have it and all would be forgiven when they’d cuddle up side by side to go to sleep. Even as he became more feeble due to severe arthritis and a few episodes of pneumonia, his big personality and spunk showed through. We had a wonderful, unforgettable year together. Senior rescue dogs are truly the best and I miss him everyday. Thank you GSRNE for bringing us together.
