The first thing we thought when we got the call was why would anyone name this beautiful girl Joey Rabbit? Her owner, Alyssa told us that she acquired Joey in Las Vegas where she was not properly cared for by a person she knew. Joey’s owner had other GSDs and cats and would discipline Joey much more severely than what Alyssa thought was appropriate. She told us Joey spent a lot of time on a chain if she made a mess or disobeyed.
We are very grateful for people like Alyssa who knew it was best to get Joey out of that environment and took her back home to New England to live with her fiancé and his dog. At first things went well but the other dog in Alyssa’s home was a female and a PTSD service dog. It didn’t take long before the two female dogs started to go at it and fight. Alyssa and her fiancé really tried their hardest working with both dogs but eventually realized it was best to re-home Joey Rabbit. It was extremely difficult for them to give this dog up —they LOVED her very much.
Just around the same time one of our repeat adopters had just lost their dog GSRNE’S Bella to cancer. It had only been a few weeks and we weren’t sure if they were ready BUT as soon as we told them about Joey they were very excited to foster to adopt this beautiful girl. It has been 3 weeks since Joey has been with them and they told us she is pure joy! Joey adjusted quickly to her new home. She is a great little watch dog and alerts them if anyone is walking by their home, but once your inside and she knows your not a threat she will greet you with one of her toys persuading you to throw it. She is also excellent with all the grandchildren that visit every other weekend.
We are so grateful that Joey’s journey is over now and she has found her forever home. If not for Alyssa who brought her back from Las Vegas she would not have the wonderful life she has today. Thank you Alyssa! The world is a better place because of people like you.
