Loulou used to live between two homes with her original owner, one in SC, where she was a perfect dog, and one in MA, on a farm,
where she chased the farm animals. Her owner had to keep her tied up when they were in MA so she wouldn’t chase the loose
animals, and he decided that was not a good life for her. He told us that she lived with other dogs, and cats and played well with
them; she was also friendly to people and great with children. This information was confirmed by the evaluation done by a
GSRNE volunteer, and LouLou was brought into a foster-to-adopt home.
Her foster parents were repeat adopters who had applied again after their GSRNE dog, Cassie (#190), had passed at age 13,
leaving their 10-year-old Pomeranian, Brody, missing her as much as they did. It took some months before they were ready to adopt
again, and Brody turned 11 during that time; but he’s still an active little guy and easily welcomed LouLou into their home.
We’ve been told that they are inseparable and often share the same dog bed.
After three months in the foster home with her new family, LouLou no longer needs to be in the crate at night and sleeps
nicely on a dog bed in their bedroom. They have really worked on the Separation Anxiety she was first experiencing, and they told
us how they are now able to go out and leave her outside the crate for short periods of time.
Her new Mom said that all they have to do is look at her, and her tail starts to wag. She tends to be a bit camera shy but is getting better, and her Mom likes to take pictures of her and Brody. LouLou is great at the vet’s, loves to ride in the car and really enjoys her daily walks as well as
playing fetch in their big back yard. They are changing her name to Athena, and she seems to like it. She’s a happy girl, and we
are so pleased for her and her forever family!
