Craving attention, Riley puts being with people
first on her list of fun, followed by squeaky and plush toys. Tennis
balls, and stuffed toys are among her favorites, and Riley loves to
play games and have people who want to interact with her.
Riley is a clever girl who would have fun learning some tricks to
impress friends and neighbors. She’d love to give agility a try with
you but will be happy hiking, biking or playing a game in the
backyard. She loves people, has a great attitude and plenty of
play drive. She'll toss a squeak toy up in the air and will even play
with it all by herself.
Riley is an energetic, friendly girl whose
excitement at meeting new people often gets the best of her and she'll
need continued work to keep her from jumping up on people to greet
them. When she came to us she had never had a collar slipped over her
head, and had almost no leash on throughout her life. She continues
to pull on leash and new owners are urged to work with Riley so she
can walk and begin to get herself under control at the same time.
Though she loves to be patted and kissed, Riley has
some issues with her muzzle and ears. She used to literally scream when you
touch them, and is very fearful of having her paws held to clip her
nails or of being restrained at all. You can now touch her face and
ears, but she's still not crazy about having her nails trimmed. We are not sure what happened
before coming to us that has Riley so terrified of this, but she'll
need an owner that will go very slow and continue to work on
desensitizing her. We'll help you with how to do that.
In her previous home she was let out to play with
the neighborhood children and gets excited when she sees kids. She
adores people and is a very friendly girl but will not tolerate rough
handling and ear pulling but prefers being gently stroked.
Not a dog for a first time owner, Riley can be pushy
with people, other dogs and attention. She is a dominant girl that
believes that all the toys are for her only so the new owner will
either need to remove them or closely supervise Riley's playtime with
other dogs. Invasions of her food bowl by other dogs is not tolerated,
but feeding her in her crate will take care of that problem She would
do best as an only girl, but can reside with a submissive, easy-going
male. She needs someone to be consistent with rules and be black &
white concerning what is allowed and not allowed. Obedience training
will help Riley bond with her owner, and since she loves to please,
she should do well.
Though Riley is an active girl, she will go and lay in her crate
periodically to relax. After a good romp, Riley is happy to hang out
with her family. She’s a sweetheart that
wants a family of her own. Is it with you?
