The Annual Reunion and Picnic

The Annual Reunion and Picnic

This year’s picnic was held on Sunday, June 23, 2019, at the Middlesex County 4H Fairgrounds, 51 So. Chelmsford Rd. Westford, MA 01886.

One of our favorite eventsĀ at GSRNE is the Picnic where we (volunteers, members and dogs) get togetherĀ to relax, hang out, and share some delicious food, games, and GSRNE news. For several years we’ve been holding this event at the 4-H Fairgrounds in Westford, MA, and our members have let us know that they really like this location. Some of the advantages of this fairground are the large, airy buildings, the mature trees and an open field for games and events or just exploring with your dog. The picnic starts at 11 AM, rain or shine.

The Picnic “Basket”

The Annual Picnic is a collaboration between GSRNE and members. There is an abundance of picnic food and tasty treats for all to enjoy. GSRNE provides the meats for the grill and our members each bring a favorite dish, salad or dessert to share. We also need water. Please note that we already have a supply of soda. Nobody goes home hungry from this event! Please let us know what you will be bringing. You can email us at picnic@gsrne.org.

Rescue Dog Parade – Celebrating All Rescue Dogs

We’ll be holding our Rescue Dog Parade at the Picnic again this year. WeĀ want to prepare a list of adopted dogs that will be in the Rescue Dog Parade, so please send an email to picnic@gsrne.org to let us know ifĀ you and your dog will be there. We all enjoy hearing new stories and seeing the members with their dogs and all breeds are welcome. We love to parade EVERY rescue dog!Ā  If your dog does not do well at such busy events, we hope you are able to join us even if your dog can’t participate. It is a fun day and hearing about all the dogs is special

Celebrating Our People

Another highlight of the day is when we stop to recognize our people who give so much of their time and their talents to helping the dogs. We really look forward to sharing the stories of some of our most active volunteers each year, but it’s getting harder to choose just a few as our membership grows! We will announce our 2018 Foster Home of the Year as well as those volunteers who made special contributions during 2018 and who haven’t been recognized in the past. There will be presentations of the Starfish Pins and the Kasey and Chey Awards.

Set-up and Clean-Up

Tables and chairs are provided by the 4-H facility, but we need our own volunteers to come early and help set them up in the covered pavilion and put them away afterwards. Please send an email to www.picnic@gsrne.org if you are able to help with the set up and/or take down and clean-up. As you know, all the money contributed to GSRNE goes to help the dogs so we don’t hire people to do the jobs we can do for ourselves.Ā Your help makes a difference.

Key Times to Note

Please set aside the date, June 23th, and join us for a day of celebration! Set up starts at 9:00 and the picnic starts at 11:00 AM.
