Whatever you have on your to-do list, Nala would be happy to keep you company while you’re doing it. She wants to please and will focus her beautiful eyes on her foster Mom when being spoken to, tilts her head to one side and seems to be trying to understand every word.
Nala loves getting attention and tries to jump up in excitement when meeting a new person. She’s learning to sit and wait for a treat when greeting someone, but it’s hard for her to sit still. Every walk is a new adventure, with new sights, sounds and smells to experience. She was quite nervous, at first, walking next to a busy street; but she has learned to look to her foster Mom for direction. She still needs gradual introductions to new things and responds well to patience and kindness. If another dog approaches, Nala will be nervous and reactive, but she is learning to keep walking and not worry too much if the other dog doesn’t focus on her. She has become comfortable around a calm, stable male German Shepherd and could probably live with a dog like that.
She had been purchased at a pet shop and given as a gift to her original owner who called us when she realized that 9-12 hours per day in a crate was not good for any dog. Nala was bored and under-exercised and had resorted to chasing her tail, spinning in circles and doing submissive peeing. When she first came to GSRNE, she spent time with our Training Director, who helped her gain some confidence and socialization. In her foster home, Nala has shown us how playful she can be, chasing balls in the fenced yard or returning play bows from her foster Mom and running to pick up a toy or ball to play with.
Nala is ready to find her forever home with someone who would really appreciate a good companion and friend!
