This lovely young female has blossomed in the care of her foster Mom and is learning that life can be good.  She had been removed from a hoarding situation, where she was crated much of the time, and she had had a litter of puppies before she was 18 months old.  Her life was already improving while she was at the shelter and starting to make friends with her caretakers there, but she was wary of meeting new people.  The shelter ACO contacted GSRNE and asked if we would have a foster home for her so she could be out in the world, taking walks, playing in a yard and learning that people can be kind.

Fortunately, we had just the right foster home for Daphne, and we’ve seen her playful personality begin to emerge.  She loves her tennis balls and squeaky toys and will entertain herself by dropping a ball, watching it roll away and then pouncing on it to repeat the game.  She loves going for her daily walks in a local park and gets very excited when her foster Mom picks up the leash; she’ll sit right in front of her and look up, waiting for the leash to be attached.

Daphne is still cautious about meeting new people, and she warms up more quickly to women than to men.  If the “stranger” has a treat in hand, Daphne will go up to her slowly, gently take the treat and then back up a few steps.  If her foster Mom stays to chat with the person, Daphne will just hang out and wait; but she prefers that the person doesn’t reach out to pat her.
With visitors to the home, Daphne will warm up more quickly once the person is seated and has some treats to share.

The ideal home for this girl will be one with a calm atmosphere and with a person who has the love and patience to continue building her confidence.  Someone who won’t have to crate her for long periods of time and who will enjoy daily walks, playtime in the yard, and working together in obedience classes.  Someone who will appreciate being the center of Daphne’s world.
