Bear is an adorable 16 week old male GSD looking for his forever home. He is currently being fostered in a home with one adult and two other GSDs. He is a very sweet and playful boy, with low to medium energy, looking for a home to continue working on his puppy manners. Bear is extremely food motivated and quickly learns, but he is still working on training and manners. Going on car rides, playing with his friends at doggy daycare, and toys are a few of his favorite things. In his foster home, Bear has gone to many different places including outdoor restaurants, banks, stores, and dog walk events and enjoys the stimulation around him. Bear is crate trained and knows most basic commands, but still needs work as he’s a learning puppy.

When Bear first arrived in his foster home, it was thought that he was a happy, healthy puppy. However, once GSRNE brought him to his first vet visit, it was discovered Bear had some very serious hip issues at only 10 weeks old. The hardworking veterinarians recommended a newer JPS surgery to hopefully correct his hip dysplasia. The JPS surgery cauterizes his public growth plate to help keep his hips in the joints and prevent any further dysplasia or arthritis. Bear recovered well from surgery, but his activity will need to be limited for the next two months. Additionally, while this surgery is very successful, there is no guarantee it will 100% fix his hip issues, so he will need x-rays to monitor his progress as he grows at 6 months and again at 1 year. If the surgery is found to be unsuccessful, Bear may need a full hip replacement when he is older and full grown. Bear is looking for a very special home that is willing to closely monitor his health and willing to rehabilitate him should he need hip surgery in the future.

If you know the breed well, have experience and are committed to training and monitoring Bear’s health, this is the dog for you!
