Champ
GSRNE #287
2007 – 1/6/2017
(Adopted in March 2010)

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I tell you that we said goodbye to Champ yesterday. His condition with DM had continued to deteriorate since June. The last few weeks, we knew we were nearing the end as we noticed Champ’s condition changing, and we knew it was time. He is at peace now.

We have been blessed to share Champ’s journey over this last 6+ years of his life, and to be able to give him the life he so deserved after being rescued from the streets of Chelmsford, MA. We have also been blessed to have come to know so many wonderful folks through GSRNE and become part of the stories that give all of us hope for these wonderful dogs that we all love. We know Champ touched so many lives as he did ours throughout his journey.

What items are we looking for? German Shepherd items of course! Statues, rugs, throws, pillows, key chains, GSD notepaper, cards and paintings — just about anything goes as long as they are first quality and something that can be sold.

Dog-related items do very well and don’t need to be German Shepherd specific. We are looking for dog bowls, cookie jars, leashes, collars, dog beds – all kinds of pet products! One-half to two-thirds of the auction items are pet specific and the good news is that if we receive too many of one type of item for the auction, they can be used for other events or even for our foster dogs. But we don’t leave out people! We have seen beautiful vases, jewelry, collectible plates, and baskets of products that anyone can use. Sports memorabilia items are also very popular, as are any kind of electronics. Come and see which items raise the most this year! Here are just a few samples from the more than 287 items that successful bidders took home from our 2016 Auction.

PLEASE complete a separate form for each item you donate. It really, really helps us to have the completed form at hand when we are preparing our Auction Catalog and your tax deductible donation receipt. There are three ways to donating items to us: 1. You can bring items to the tagging party. 2. You can deliver them to one of our collection sites located throughout New England. Please email us at auction@gsrne.org for locations. 3. You can mail your items to:

GSRNE
P.O. Box 4063
Westford, MA 01886

Donations are accepted at any time but to ensure inclusion in this year’s auction and auction catalog, items should be received by us no later than March 20th.

Auction Catalog

Once all the items are received and organized, we will post all available items online so that you can plan ahead. We will have printed copies of the catalog at the auction.

Business Advertising: You may advertise your business in our catalog to show your support and it also comes with online exposure. There are four options from which to choose ranging from $$75 for a full-page size (7″ x 9.5″) ad to a copy of your business card (3.5″ x 2.25″ for $20. Click for more information: 2016-Auction-Catalog-Advertising.

Individual Remembrances: You may memorialize a beloved pet. Happy occasions are also welcomed such as weddings, birthdays, congratulations, etc.  Please click here for sizing and pricing information: 2016-Auction-Catalog-Advertising

Tagging Party

On Saturday, April 1st, we start the tagging party at 10:30AM and work until we’re done, which is usually around 5PM. If you’re unable to stay all day, please consider coming by for a couple of hours. Any length of time will be a big help! We DO take a food break in the middle of the day, and we each bring something to snack on or drink (fruit juice, soda, water, etc.). Please email auction@gsrne.org to R.S.V.P. to the Tagging Party and let us know what food or drink item you’ll be able to bring. Each person can bring a small or moderate amount (2 bottles of soda, a large bag of chips, 1 kind of dessert, some sandwiches, a plate of cheese and crackers, etc). We put it all out, buffet style, and take about 45 minutes to reward ourselves with food (positive reinforcement!). If you are not able to bring food, we still hope you will attend. There’s always enough to share!

Organizing Donations

What do we do at the Tagging Party?

All the donated items for the auction should be received by us by Monday, March 20, 2017. Once we have the items, we need to decide which go into the Live Auction (usually about 60 – 70 items), which go into the Yellow Silent Auction and which go into the Blue Silent Auction. We physically move all the items into their designated rooms. We then put a colored dot sticker on each item showing the Auction Catalog number assigned to that item. Items that do not yet have a description for the catalog need to have one written, so we need creative writers to do that on the spot. Eventually, all items will be boxed up for transport to the Holiday Inn on the morning of the Auction!

Please let us know if you’d like to attend the tagging party by emailing us..

It’s a lot of work but we make it a lot of fun and it is a great way to meet other GSRNE volunteers!

The auction is a key fundraiser for GSRNE and we cannot do it without you!

This year we will continue the tradition of holding two Silent Auctions and a very exciting Live Auction.

Auction Day

On Sunday, April 30th, we begin setting up around 9:30 am. All the tables and auction items have to be in place by 11:30 am when the first Silent Auction begins. After the auction, we need help to pack up and leave the auction room in order. It’s a lot of fun and there is a great sense of accomplishment to be a part of the day. In addition to the auction, we will have a sales table, a food table with sandwiches and chips and baked goods as well as a 50/50 raffle.

Bidding makes everyone hungry! If you can donate food or baked goods for the food table please email us at auction@gsrne.org. If you have items to donate, have any questions or if you can help in any area, please email auction@gsrne.org.

Enjoy the auction, bring your checkbook or credit card and bid high to help the dogs!

This benefit auction features everything a dog lover could need or want! Unique and unusual items will be  available featuring a German Shepherd theme – a rare opportunity for the German Shepherd Dog enthusiast to find so many collectibles at one time, in one place. This year we also have items galore for the human members of your family. Mark your calendar and plan on having a great time and helping out New England’s German Shepherd Dogs in need!

Having Fun

Enjoy bidding on (and winning) many terrific canine, non-canine and German Shepherd Dog collectibles. You can feel good knowing that you have helped pay for veterinary visits, medicine, surgeries, food and other expenses required to rescue German Shepherds from shelters and place them in loving homes or with the Working Dog Programs such as Search and Rescue, Coast Guard, State and Local Police K-9 units. Last year we were able to place many dogs but some required extensive medical treatment to give them a quality life. We are asking everyone to try and help out in any way they can.

On Auction Day, we can accept cash, personal checks and credit cards for payment of your items.

Cash is appreciated for the food and sales tables. Please don’t forget to bring a little extra for raffle tickets!

Update on 12/23/2016

Gretchen mom says:

“We have had a wonderful year with her.  She has had lots of fun from enjoying doggie ice cream, going to the beach, camping and climbing on rocks in the river. She also loves to snuggle with our cat.  They get along wonderfully.  She amazes us every day with her very vocal and quirky personality.  She loves walk, rides in the car.  Say the word “ride” and she is waiting by the door talking to us.  I actually said to my husband this morning, I can not even imagine ever having a dog other than a German Shepherd.  Gretchen loves to sit either snuggled up next to us on the couch or actually on our lap.  Every morning she watches out the front window as the kids wait for the bus and she does not move from the window until they get on the bus.  I could go on and on about Gretchen.  She is a beautiful girl and we love her more every day.”

Thank you for your donation to German Shepherd Rescue of New England (GSRNE).  If you didn’t give PayPal permission to share your address with us, please send us an email at donations@gsrne.org with your contact information so that we can properly acknowledge your donation and send you a receipt for your tax-deductible donation.  GSRNE does not share your information with any other organization.

I write with the sad news of Mona’s passing. She had a wonderful life with me, my only complaint was that it was only five years–way too short a time to spend with such a sweet girl. She and I had many medical challenges over her last 15 months, but we also had many joys. It was very sad to let her go.
