Phoenix is one of those dogs you just wished
you’d had all his life! He’s very friendly with people and is a
dog who truly enjoys being petted and appreciated. He’s also a
very handsome example of the breed. Phoenix enjoys his 30-minute
walks in the mornings and will sit calmly by your side if you
meet a friend and stop to chat. When passing other dogs on
leash, he prefers to keep moving and doesn’t want to stop and
visit. If a chipmunk runs across your path, you’ll need to have
a firm grip on the leash; he considers it his job to chase all
chipmunks back to their hideaways.
Phoenix is content to lie near you as you go
about your daily chores and will wait patiently while you’re away
at work. If you can take him in the car once in a while, he’s
especially happy and will watch out the window while you take
care of short errands. He loves carrying a tennis ball around in
the house and playing “keep away.” Outside, though, he’ll drop
the ball and go on Chipmunk Patrol, keeping an eye on you to make
sure he’s not missing any fun. In the evenings, Phoenix loves to
stretch out near your chair and keep you company while you read
or watch TV. He’ll snuggle his head into your lap when you call
him over for a hug, and he loves to have his ears massaged. He
looks you in the eye and wags his tail gently when you smile and
say some kind words.
Phoenix has learned to live
with two cats in his current foster home. At first, he would
whine and poke at the cat who was lying on the couch or chair;
now he understands that isn't polite, and he'll walk away when
told to "leave it." When the cat jumps down and walks across the
room, Phoenix wants to herd it between his front legs and will
follow along. Both cats now ignore that behavior, and Phoenix
will leave them alone when reminded to do that. One of the two
cats was very skittish around dogs but now seems confident that
Phoenix means no harm; he will strut back and forth on the couch,
while Phoenix watches from inches away.
Phoenix seems to truly enjoy the company of
older children and teens. He was raised with 2 boys in his
original family and really perks up when his foster Dad’s teenage
son visits! This dog was never abused or neglected; he’s always
lived in a wonderful family situation until his family broke up.
He’s always been a highly-beloved pet without major behavioral
issues, and we’d like him to spend his Senior years the same way.
This dog is quite a large boy, in the 90-lb.
Region. Being a long-coated German Shepherd Dog (and what a coat
he has…magnificent!), that makes him look even larger than he
is. And yet, he’s a gentle giant; a dog whom his foster parents
say is the nicest companion and easy to live with. Phoenix can
get along with many other medium-to-large female dogs and has
lived with two females in foster care. In truth, though, he
doesn’t seem to care that much for the company of dogs; he really
prefers to be with people and wants to be YOUR companion.
If you’re looking for a wonderful, handsome,
friendly companion dog, a dog who will adore you as if you made
the sun rise, ask us about Phoenix! |
